Matt shared with the world the wonderful story of his adopted cat during a recent appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
āSo we adopted this cat in Costa Rica about 10 years ago,ā the 53-year-old Oppenheimer and Bourne franchise actor began. āHe was living by himself in the jungle, he was the coolest cat youāve ever seen. I mean, he was hunting, he had two giant holes in his sideā¦ā
He explained the cat was fighting for his life, and they began feeding it while staying at an Airbnb for the month.
āWe had to take the cat,ā Matt remembered when it came time for him to return to the US. āWe were like, āThis guyās gonna die now. Heās relying on us.ā He moves into our house. I think heās had a little yard in LA, but heāll be great out there⦠he never went outside ever again.ā
After some laughter from the audience, the story took a tragic turn, revealing the cat ended up with a brain tumor. āHeās the toughest jungle cat,ā he said, āIām not gonna let the brain tumor take this cat.ā
He underwent treatment with radiation, etc. but sadly the catās behaviour was alarming once theyād moved to New York. So, he took the cat to a neurologist named Chad at an animal hospital, who told him heād be best to prepare his children for the worst.
Treatment had cat looking like āArnold Schwarzeneggerā
Agreeing to return the cat to the hospital in three weeks, the neurologist made a suggestion.: āāI could load him up on steroids,'ā Matt recalled Chad offering.
When asked if giving the cat steroids could create any long term issues, Chad immediately said yes, but that they could see what happens, and that they did.
āThat was two and a half years ago,ā Matt triumphantly announced with an adorable smile on his face. āNow heās jacked⦠Heās like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Heās got muscles on muscles.ā
Sadly, Matt has a secret and private Instagram so we canāt see his furry friend. Weāll just have to use our imagination.
Itās such a beautiful storyānow go and give your cat or cats a hug, even if your home is their jungle.
